Nothing fancy, but at least it's consistent. I was a little slow getting going, left calf and hipflexor kind of stiff, but after the first mile I woke up and settled in to a 7:45 pace. 31:20

supernova red -- 132

Thu, 08 Jan 2009 05:00:00 +0100 Wed, Jan 07, 2009 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-07-2009.html
Morning run at the Y, started at 8/min pace and moved down to 7:40. And you can decide during the race whether you want to turn around and just do a 5k. Not real serious competition, it's just a relaxed little thing the Y does to get people outside in the cold (and as an excuse for a post-race potluck, though I skipped it to make it to church. What a sacrifice). But I wanted to show up because it's in the neighborhood, and I'll count it as a 'race' even though it was more like a tempo workout.

The field didn't look too imposing as we stood there, most people had just stepped out of their cars. I think 4 of us even did striders before starting. Luckily one guy went out strong, so I had someone to run with. He was a triathlaloner and in pretty good shape. We stuck together the whole race but weren't really 'racing' as much as pacing each other. The route was basically the Illahee State Park run I do from my house, but shorter based on where it ... Decent temperature, in the low 40s and cloudy. She's a pretty fast runner, sub-40 10k, so the pace was good. We kept just above 7/min most of the way. Two bridges route, then down to Bachmann Park and home. 38:12

supernova red -- 112

Sat, 03 Jan 2009 05:00:00 +0100 Wed, Dec 31, 2008 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-12-31-2008.html
Over in Seattle for the day, and my brother and I went out to the Burke-Gilman Trail. Haven't run there in awhile. It was cloudy and drizzling, we went out a little more than two miles and turned back, ran to the market and bought soup and walked home. Pretty easy pace, Timm doesn't get many miles in way up on the tundra. 35:25

supernova red -- 107

Wed, 31 Dec 2008 05:00:00 +0100 Tue, Dec 30, 2008 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-12-30-2008.html The snow has cleared out and life is starting to settle down again. I took today and tomorrow off, so I should be able to run a few times this week. Easy three miles, 8 minute pace, at the Y this morning. 24:14. Tue, 30 Dec 2008 05:00:00 +0100 Sat, Dec 20, 2008 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-12-20-2008.html
Nasty few days here, the snow hit Wednesday night, that and icy streets shut me down and I couldn't get to the Y either (they closed). Plus work is extra busy with this going on (because some people can't get in), and that adds to the day. Today it's a little better, but I can't get my car out because I live on a 45-degree ice hockey rink. Mail doesn't even get delivered on my street. And it just started snowing again. I have been walking 4 miles a day to and from work and the store, so I guess my legs have been exercised some. Today's treadmill run was great though, 2 miles at 8 min. pace and 3 at 7:30. The faster miles were more enjoyable, really comfortable and effortless. Hopefully we don't get dumped on again tonight, and the rain can come wash this away. I'm such a winter pansy now. 38:30.

Sat, 20 Dec 2008 05:00:00 +0100 Tue, Dec 16, 2008 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-12-16-2008.html
Again at the Y -- it is freeeezing outside, especially for the winter namby-pambies up here. In Utah I could take running outside when it's 30, but my blood has warmed here (it is dark for more of the morning though, so I still hold that excuse). It's cold and clear with some white on the ground, reminds me of Cache Valley right now. But anyway, I went back to the treadmill. Felt much better than yesterday, my legs, heart and lungs needed to be reminded what running is. Still nothing fast, started at 8:30 and worked down to 7:53 miles, and not too long. A success compared to yesterday (or all of last week). 29:00.

supernova red -- 106.5

Tue, 16 Dec 2008 05:00:00 +0100 Mon, Dec 15, 2008 http://nelson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-12-15-2008.html
Back from a stretch of the winter blahs last week. I didn't intend to take that much time off, but just kind of got in a rut and all of a sudden was falling out of shape. Snow's on the ground and it's cold now, so I went to the Y. I just did 3 miles at 8:30 pace, easing back into it (though I didn't feel like I could have run a lot faster). I could feel the layoff, sluggish and my heart rate is definitely up. It'll take a bit to regain the fitness lost. But hopefully I can get back into a winter routine and start to set some goals for next year, it felt really good to run again. 25:45

supernova red -- 103

Mon, 15 Dec 2008 05:00:00 +0100
