I think I was a bit over 4 today, but it wasn't much more. The middle two miles were tempo pace, probably around 6:30/mile. I didn't mean to do that, it was just really nice out and I was kind of in a hurry so I cut loose a bit. I relaxed the last mile in though, and I plan to get easy distance tomorrow. Incidentally, I completely credit this run to the blog. I didn't have much time for a run today, but reading the blog today stuck in my head (especially Paul's column about doubles, which mentioned that even short runs improve the blood flow, etc. and thus are important) so I got out.

A short run, even a mile, beats no run any day. For an experiment, have one group run a mile a day six days a week, and the other do nothing. Then have them race a distance 5 K or longer after 3 months.

Yeah!

Same here! I intended to do 4 miles in the morning yesterday, and ended up catching up on sleep instead. Then I stroll in to work only to find Paul's blog and make me feel like a stinkin' goon. I got right out and pounded out 8 miles out of shear guilt (kidding, i was excited for it all day). Nice work, Paul! We're all becoming the annal retentive freakazoid runners you warned us about.

I like Sasha's comment. I'd always been taught the junk miles theory, which short slow runs don't matter. But with the busy schedule I have, it helps me mentally to tell myself I'll just go for a mile or two even if I don't have time (or if I sleep in, because you ain't the only one Ben). And maybe on some of those I'll just stay out longer because I'm feeling good.

yeah, and let's face it, once you're out for a couple miles you might as well just stay out for a few more and have a quicker breakfast (or in my case skip the shower).
